I Want to Climb Mt Whitney

Backpacker Magazine is climbing Mt. Whitney for Kids.  They are offering up a contest for people to join them on their journey.

As an avid outdoors person and personally having the Sierra Nevada's as one of my top spots to want to go, I am entering this contest.

Friends / Readers - one of the things that will help me to prove why Backpacker Magazine should select me is YOUR voice.  Leave a comment to this blog as to why you think Backpacker Magazine should pick me to help them raise money for Big City Mountaineers and join them as they push to the summit of Mt Whitney.

  3. To say you are an "outdoor enthusiast" is a mild take on the person you are! You live and breath a good outing in nature whether alone, with friends or with your wonderful dog! You are a kind a generous person and love to share your experiences with people. I love reading about your adventures and seeing your pictures on Facebook. I think you should be choosen for this trip because of your experience, upbeat personality, the opportunity to contribute to these kids and to be the "fun one" on the trip! Good luck to you Tammy!

  4. Hey Backpacker Magazine, I am making this recommendation all the way from Australia. That's how confident I am in recommending you take Tammy with you, because I was privileged to trek Kilimanjaro with Tammy and I found her knowledge about hiking and trekking and the outdoors generally truly amazing. She is a package that comes prepared, from her dedication, selflessness and concern for the environment that she loves. Oh and she knows wilderness first aid (Bonus!). So go on, let her come along.

  5. Dear Backpacker Magazine,

Here are the top five reasons you have to pick Tammy to participate in Mt Whitney for Kids:

    1) She spends every weekend climbing WI & bordering states (literally)
    2) She has won many varieties of climbing contests
    3) Conquered Mt. Kilimanjaro
    4) Adventure Rock has her picture on top of Ancient Art
    5) Most importantly, Mt Whitney is on her bucket list!

In addition to these points, she has a passion for the sport and this reflects on her achievements (personally and professionally)! Tammy has a natural skill to motivate and through her passion to climb, she would be a great addition to your journey.

  7. When I hear the word adventurer, the only thing that comes to mind is Tammy. Not only is she a great, dependable person but she is a nature and hiking purest. I love hearing her latest climbing stories and the places she travels in search of a great climb. The most amazing part is that you can see how passionate she is about her sport when she shares her experience with you. Tammy would be a great addition to the team and no doubt share her experience with others.

  8. My selfish point of view:
    1. My goal of seeing Wisconsin; you've helped me hit some of my Wisconsin Bucket List items and experience places I've wanted to check out. You were a great tour guide.
    2. Camping partner: even though I grew up camping, our camping trips and hiking expeditions have helped me hone my skills. I'm a better outdoors person because of it.
    3. Your dedication: with the training you take on to build your skills, the spare time you spend either outside at a park or indoor climbing, along with your world-wide travels to have backpacking adventures, it's obvious you have a passion for not only doing it, but educating others on how to do it safely and well.
I'm a better outdoors person because of it. I have no doubt you can raise the money and make the most of the trip for yourself and others. And, I'd like to see you get a chance to cross this off your bucket list!

  9. You really should pick Tammy as someone to join the trip:

    1) She's got a great positive attitude that would benefit any group dynamic! From personal experience, she is an awesome coworker/teammate, and a lovely friend.

    2) She's definitely not a novice, and you can tell she really likes to nurturing others to enjoy her passion. I have personally been on the receiving side of this

    3) Based on her climbing credentials (people already listed them above), she has proven she is dedicated and committed, and has the mental and physical capabilities to climb Mt. Whitney!

  11. You should pick Tammy because she loves to climb and has been wanting to take on one of the high peaks of the west for a long time. She loves the outdoors and spends all her spare time camping. She's also been a big fan of BCM and told me about them years ago. She enjoys sharing her love of the outdoors with others. She also loves Backpacker Magazine and plans most of her trips based on what she reads from the magazine or website.

You'll love having Tammy along for the trip. She's tough, so you know she'll make it. She can handle any weather without complaining. She's a lot of fun. And she can even laugh at herself when she spills her chili all over camp while in the heart of grizzly country!

  12. For as long as I've known Tammy, her vacations have been action-packed eco experiences. She absolutely lives for it and spends weekends in the outdoors with her dogs pursuing her passion. She continually improves her skills as evidenced by her recent completion of Wilderness First Aid training. Tammy is dedicated, enthusiastic, friendly and self sufficient and will be an asset to the Mt. Whitney for Kids team. If you want the best team possible, be sure Tammy is on it!
